Pears May Protect Against Lung Cancer
|
Pears contain powerful antioxidants that may help prevent the onset of many cancers, including a big one – lung cancer.
Lung cancer is the second-most-common cancer in men and women, accounting for about 14 percent of all new cancers. It is the leading cancer death, with more people dying from lung cancer than colon, breast and prostate cancers combined.
Pears are a bright spot in the grim lung cancer statistics, as research suggests that eating pears may protect against lung cancer. Two large studies have linked increasing intake of fruits, specifically those in the rosaceae family (pears), to protect against lung cancer.
One study observed more than 520,000 participants in Europe and found that increasing fruit intake, particularly apples and pears, decreased the risk of developing lung cancer.
From fiber and vitamin C to antioxidants, pears are packed with goodness that enables them to be among the beneficial fruits for preventing the onset of cancer. Learn nutritious ways to enjoy pears in this post from our blog, The Stem.
