Fresh, Flavorful and Innovative.
Three simple words that make a world of difference at Stemilt.
In 1964, Tom Mathison founded Stemilt under the premise that consumers should have access to fruit that tastes orchard fresh and is rich in flavor. To see this vision through, he pioneered better growing practices, improved packing techniques and created a system that ensured only the best fruit went to market.
Today, Stemilt continues to lead the industry in fruit quality and innovation.
It starts in the orchards, where geographic diversity, elevation changes, and superior growing conditions give Stemilt the best apples, pears, cherries and summer fruits around. Our horticulture expertise and commitment to safe growing practices ensures that fruit is not just grown for flavor, but also with the environment's best interest in mind.
On the packing side, Stemilt's state-of-the-art facilities, network of controlled atmosphere storage rooms and innovative packaging solutions deliver the freshest product to any destination. Additionally, we have the only in-house research and development team in the industry to continually test new products and methods for improving fruit quality.
Stemilt is also on the forefront of organic agriculture and sustainable business practices. In 1989, Tom Mathison transitioned significant acreage to organic production. Today, Stemilt is a leader in organic growing techniques and one of the largest suppliers of organic tree fruits in the nation.
In addition to our extensive organic background, Stemilt is built on a foundation of sustainable business practices. In 1989, Tom introduced Responsible Choice, a program designed to reduce orchard pesticides, protect the soil, and conserve water. Today, Responsible Choice is part of our corporate culture with new initiatives emerging every year.
