How to Make Chocolate Dipped Apple Slices
|
Dipping fruit in chocolate is nothing new, especially when we think of the most romantic day of the year – Valentine’s Day – and its most popular dessert, chocolate covered strawberries. And while I love fruits like apples all on their own, I also think that we all deserve a treat every now and then, and that there is nothing better than dipping apples in something sweet (peanut butter is one classic pairing that comes to mind)!
The saying “everything tastes better with chocolate” came right to mind after I made and bit into one of these chocolate dipped apple slices. Whether you are looking for a treat for your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day, or a simple and quick dessert that uses ingredients you likely have on hand at home, follow the step-by-step instructions below in order to make simple and delicious chocolate dipped apples.
How to Make Chocolate Dipped Apple Slices
Step 1: Gather the following ingredients and kitchen utensils:
- 4 Stemilt apples (I used Pink Lady apples, knowing that their tart flavor would balance out the sweetness of the chocolate. You can read more about Pink Lady apples here, here, and here.
- 1 cup of chocolate melting wafers (you can use any baking chocolate or chips but the wafers are foolproof when it comes to melting)
- Toppings like shaved coconut and slivered almonds (optional)
- A glass, microwave-safe measuring cup
- An apple slicer
- A spatula
- Waxed paper to reduce mess
Step 2: Melt the chocolate wafers in the microwave:
I did this in 30 second increments, and it took approximately 1:30 to melt an entire cup. Stir the chocolate after each 30 second interval to ensure a smooth consistency.
Step 3: Place waxed paper down on the surface where you will be dipping the apples into the chocolate
Step 4: Using an apple slicer, carefully slice the apple: Remove and toss the core.
Step 5: Now it’s time to dip: Dip one end of the apple slice into the chocolate. Hold to coat.
Step 6: Carefully pull the apple slice out of the chocolate and twist the apple in a circle in order to prevent the chocolate from dripping: You can either place it on the waxed paper, or sprinkle coconut or almonds on top and then put it on the waxed paper.
Step 7: Allow the chocolate to set (or harden): Repeat Steps 4-7 with the remaining apples.
Be sure to enjoy this treat immediately after making it! Since the apples have been sliced, they may start to brown, so you’ll want to eat this treat right away. Happy Valentine’s Day!
